David Blaine Magic Tricks

When youre the smallest kid in the class it helps to have a few tricks up your sleeve. But now the skills that Steven Frayne, 23, used as a schoolboy in Bradford to keep the other kids off his back and himself out of trouble are paving his way to stardom. He was brought up by his mother and rarely saw his father. He was also diagnosed with Crohns disease, a chronic stomach condition, as a child. But now, global fame beckons for Dy-namo, who has signed a major deal with Warner Vision International for the worldwide distribution rights to his next DVD, scheduled for release this November. He is also the star of the video “Hands”, the new single from the Raconteurs, out today. It seems that Dynamo, often referred to as Britains answer to David Blaine, will soon be rivalling the Americans success. Senior vice-president of Warner Vision International, Frank Brunger, said that they would also produce a TV version of the production and distribute it digitally. “We were attracted to work with Dynamo simply because of his talent and the effect it has on other people. He came and did some magic here in our offices and all the staff were gobsmacked,” he said.
LAS VEGAS — Attendees of the August 2003 installment of MAGIC were not spellbound by the spring 2004 offering of apparel, accessories and footwear, but agreed that the show still does the trick. “I dont think I saw the next new trend staring me in the face, but you still have the chance to see the entire market at once: Thats why I always go to MAGIC,” said Bill Bradley, vp of merchandising for Wal-Marts Faded Glory line. Still, the lack of strong trends for spring 2004 was obvious.

The Ranger medic (military occupational specialty 91B) provides advanced trauma management across the operational spectrum in which the 75th Ranger Regiment is employed. Ranger medic duties, both in combat environments and in training, medical training, professional progression, and medical assets in the Ranger battalion are detailed. Ranger medic training management tools and techniques are discussed and illustrated. The role of the combat lifesaver, force modernization, and interoperability issues facing the medical team are discussed. The Ranger medic is a capable special operations tactical medic. The Ranger medic (military occupational specialty [MOS] 91B) is the tactical medical provider for the 75th Ranger Regiment, the U.S. Armys elite light infantry. Through training, leadership, and experience, he becomes one of the most effective combat medics in the U.S. Army. He is capable of performing across the operational spectrum of 75th Ranger Regiment employment, providing advanced trauma management in the worst of conditions. This article is based on a presentation to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) Surgeons Conference in December 1998. Within Special Operations Forces (SOF), the Special Forces Medical Sergeant MOS 18D is the epitome of the SOF medic. The force structure, selection, training, retention, and employment issues are well developed for the 18D medic, because the nearly 700 18Ds form the bulk of SOF medics. The other SOF medics, which include the 91B Ranger medic, the 91B flight medics of the Task Force 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, U.S. Air Force flight medics, and Navy Sea, Air, Land independent duty corpsmen, do not have the same refined program. There are approximately 56 91Bs within the Ranger regiment, who represent a small fraction of SOF medics. This small number of Ranger medics provided an opportunity for the development of a Ranger medic training and career progression plan.

Acupuncture as a therapeutic intervention is widely practiced in the United States. An estimated 15 million Americans have undergone acupuncture, and about five million undergo the treatment each year. People may find the procedure painless, although some points in some patients may be quite sensitive. Depending on your practitioner, the needles may be twirled or warmed. There are many state acupuncture organizations, and many states also have acupuncture regulations and codes. Almost every state has a State Acupuncture Board, and there are more than 50 accredited schools of acupuncture in the U.S. Widely practiced around the world, especially in Asia (the practice originated in China) and Europe, acupuncture didnt gain a notable following in the U.S. until the 1970s, after President Richard Nixons visit to the Peoples Republic of China. James Reston, a member of the press corps accompanying Nixon, also piqued public interest when he wrote about how physicians in Beijing eased his post-surgery abdominal pain with needles. Acupuncture has been gaining popularity in the U.S. ever since.
Acupuncture is considered a form of treatment or therapy. However, acupuncture practitioners believe that acupuncture may be most successful when it is applied as an early intervention for symptoms or conditions. It may be that acupuncture can prevent some symptoms and conditions from becoming worse or chronic. More research is needed to define the preventive value of acupuncture. Acupuncture can alleviate depression The Detroit News, Oct. 23, 1998. (referencing a report in the Sept. 1998 Psychological Science) http://detnews.com/1998/nation/9810/23/10230137.htm. Accessed May 2000.
In addition to its efficacy in relieving pain and other chronic conditions, acupuncture has gained in popularity because of several additional advantages:
It lacks the side effects associated with many medications and surgical treatments in Western medicine.
It is highly cost-effective; it may be used early in the course of a disease, potentially saving the patient the cost of hospitalizations, laboratory tests, and high-priced drugs.
It can easily be combined with other forms of therapy, including psychotherapy.
It is noninvasive.
It carries relatively few risks.
Electroacupuncture. In this form of acupuncture, the traditional acupuncture points are stimulated by an electronic device instead of a needle.
Japanese meridian acupuncture. Japanese acupuncture uses thinner, smaller needles, and focuses on the meridians rather than on specific points along their course.
Korean hand acupuncture. Traditional Korean medicine regards the hand as a map of the entire body, such that any part of the body can be treated by stimulating the corresponding point on the hand.
Western medical acupuncture. Western physicians trained in this style of acupuncture insert needles into so-called trigger points in sore muscles, as well as into the traditional points used in Chinese medicine.
Ear acupuncture. This technique regards the ear as having acupuncture points that correspond to other parts of the body. Ear acupuncture is often used to treat substance abuse and chronic pain syndromes.

During the past three months, buyers have paid $35.6 million combined — an average of $63,568 a room — for the Wyndham Hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn and Towne Place Suites, all in northern Colorado Springs. In addition to the recent hotel sales, Springfield, Mo.-based John Q. Hammons Hotels Resorts LLC will begin construction early next year near Interstate 25 and InterQuest Parkway on the citys first new full-service hotel in nearly 20 years.

In todays highly competitive and stagnant real estate market, property managers have become increasingly important, playing a value-added role, enabling landlords to maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace. However, to truly succeed in property management today, it requires more than a basic knowledge of Property Management 101, it demands a highly sophisticated, state-of-the-art approach. No longer is property management defined as merely collecting rent, changing light bulbs and coordinating service contracts.
Atco Properties Management announced that Miriam S. Mucchi has been appointed as general manager of The Shops at Atlas Park. In her new position, Mucchi will be responsible for managing the property, the staff and the tenant relations at The Shops. Leather JacketSoldiers of the Roman Empire invaded the lands of northern Europe and discovered Teutonic nomads wearing leather garments as protection against the harsh elements. When these soldiers returned to Rome with leather pants, the toga-garbed officials of the city tried to ban their use, but to no avail. Romans were soon using leather for shoes and tunics as well as for breastplates and shields. In fact, the first recorded tanning guild was formed in the Roman Empire.

Red Jacket Red Jacket (1758-1830) was a Seneca Tribal Commander who lent support to the British during the Revolutionary War. He also fought to prevent conversions to Christianity among the Iroquios. Although Red Jacket eventually allied himself with other Indian nations in support of the British during the American Revolution, he was originally hesitant about the affiliation. This ambivalence perhaps explains why he did little fighting during the conflict. According to a number of accounts, Red Jackets reluctance to fight was perceived as cowardice by some Iroquois war leaders such as Corn-planter and Joseph Brant.

In 2002, while the Hayman fire was spreading unchecked across Teller County, officials went to 1,872 homes, many in remote areas, to tell people to evacuate. It took days. Now, thanks to a new computer system, emergency officials could notify that many homes of an impending threat in less than an hour. “Thats one of our biggest concerns, getting people out of the way in a fire,” said Lt. Gregory Griswould, with the Teller County Sheriffs Office. “In a matter of minutes, we could be notifying 5,000 people an hour.”
Fourteen-year-old Brittany Bergquist and her twelve-year-old brother Robbie live in Norwell, Massachusetts, a town located 17 miles north of historic Plymouth. These days, however, the two have been taking part in history, rather than just reading about it. When they learned that the cell phone company had agreed to cancel most of the soldiers bill, Brittany and Robbie looked for a way to help other soldiers stationed in Iraq to call loved ones back home. They located a company that bought used cell phones for recycling purposes and came up with the idea of collecting used phones and selling them to raise funds. They could then use the proceeds to buy prepaid phone cards to send to military personnel overseas. They called their plan Cell Phones for Soldiers. When word of Cell Phones for Soldiers spread, support mushroomed. Neighbors held yard sales to raise funds for the cause. Following newspaper and TV coverage, hundreds of schools and organizations nationwide started local chapters and became drop-off centers for used cell phones. Jim Kelly, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, became a sponsor of the organization. Within nine months, Cell Phones for Soldiers sent $250,000 worth of phone cards to troops in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and elsewhere.

Hypnosis is a medium or modality through which you may become more alert to your own thoughts and feelings. But its not all that different from being absorbed in thought, or reading a book. With hypnosis, you are far more open to suggestion, at least, to suggestions compatible with what you are motivated to achieve. It is a form of intense receptive concentration. Accordingly, hypnosis often is used to modify behavior and overcome phobias and bad habits-it can help you make changes that youve been unable to make otherwise. Questions notwithstanding, hypnosis seems to be an effective modality for many people. In fact, a National Institutes of Health (NIH) panel has endorsed its use for the relief of various types of chronic pain. As a relaxation technique, hypnosis can help reduce your stress. Its also used to relieve phobias, lessen anxiety, break addictions and to ease symptoms of conditions such as asthma or allergy. Using hypnosis can help patients control nausea and vomiting from cancer medications and morning sickness, reduce bleeding during surgery, steady the heartbeat and bring down blood pressure.
If you are seeking relief for a medical condition, you probably want to find a health care professional-such as a physician, nurse, psychiatrist, psychologist or social worker-who is trained and experienced not only in hypnosis but also with your particular symptom or ailment. Always seek people who have had the maximum training possible in the area in which you are seeking help. Remember, it is your mind they will be working with. Finding a qualified hypnotherapist isnt that hard. Many health care professionals licensed in other fields practice hypnosis, so chances are good that your health care professional can give you a referral. Two major organizations that are recognized as having high professional standards are The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and The Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH). Both can provide the names of qualified practitioners in your area:

FINANCIAL STATEMENTSFinancial reporting is a broad concept encompassing financial statements, notes to financial statements and parenthetical disclosures, supplementary information (such as changing prices), and other means of financial reporting (such as management discussions and analysis, and letters to stockholders). Financial reporting is but one source of information needed by those who make economic decisions about business enterprises.
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?Under newer and tougher standards, auditors are more involved than ever before in reducing the incidence of financial fraud. Statement on Internal Auditing Standards No. 3 requires the internal auditors to recognize the characteristic warning signs of internal fraud. Certified Fraud Examiners, many of whom have an audit background, are required to resolve allegations of fraud. Statement on Auditing Standards No. 53, promulgated by the Auditing Standards Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, requires external auditors to be more proactive in searching for fraud. Statement on Auditing Standards No. 54 requires the independent auditor to recognize major illegal acts, and in some instances report them. Legislation pending in the U.S. Congress may mandate even tougher standards. To meet their ever-expanding responsibilities in the area of fraud deterrence, internal auditors must be more “fraud-savvy” than ever before. During the last five years, Ive conducted interviews with McKinley Tabor and a few dozen other offenders. There is a lot we can learn from these financial Frankensteins.

A PATENTLY PERFECT PROFESSION Still, another option intrigued her-a law career. “I decided I wanted an entire change,” says Feeman, now a patent lawyer for the Silicon Valley law firm Howrey Simon. At the time Feeman looked at the move not as the next step in her engineering career but as a clean break, she says. In fact, she hadnt even planned on specializing in patent law, a route commonly taken by engineers because it allows them to apply their technical skills to the law. Feeman initially preferred more “touchy-feely” law and viewed patent law as merely a fall-back option. As a student at Boston College Law School, she developed a passion for civil rights and public interest work, and outside the classroom became involved in the petition process to get clemency for some battered women who had murdered their husbands.

Since 1951, Amarr Garage Doors has been known and respected for its standard of excellence in both product quality and customer service. Over the years, Amarr has grown to be an industry leader by making product improvement a priority. We had requests for a more affordable carriage house door that didnt need maintenance, such as painting and staining, that wooden doors require. We also wanted a door with our fast lead times and easy replacement sections. Classica is our answer to those requests, said Richard Brenner, Amarrs CEO. The wood carriage house trend has been a major influence on the market in recent years and Amarr has been at the forefront. Amarr had the first branded wood carriage house door with the introduction of the Bob Timberlake[TM] Collection in 2000. That was followed with the Amarr By Design Collection in 2002 and then the Biltmore Estate For Your Home[R] Collection in 2003. All of these doors offer an elegant look and are handmade with the finest materials.

Why do we concern ourselves with such things? The concept of the contract allows people to make commitments between themselves that the state will enforce–the result being future stability of relationships, avoidance of conflict, and general societal harmony. How odd, then, to apply these concepts to family law! It might fairly be said that the whole of family law concerns itself with addressing members of society where relationships are no longer stable, where conflict abounds, and where harmony has ceased to exist. The concept of family, I think, arises only in the context of some directly stated or some implied commitment. A husband promises to share his life with his wife. Beyond the formal commitment of marriage, separate or same-sex couples can likewise expressly, or by implication, promise to share their lives with their partners. Parents promise to care for and support their children. Each of these commitments could be said to be some form of express or implied commitment between people.
KF501 Title main entry. Ed. by Ron Brown and Laura W. Morgan.
Simply put, the intention of this legal reform is to simplify the law and to improve accessibility for all by streamlining procedures in response to the public. Alberta Justice, through its Family Law Reform Project, initiated a review of all provincial family laws following a series of public consultations, primarily in Edmonton and Calgary. Family law problems are inherently complicated and in Alberta, in addition to legal issues, procedural issues–both systemic and jurisdictional–have long frustrated efforts to resolve cases. Some family law problems, such as divorce, spousal support, and child support, are matters of federal jurisdiction, governed by the laws of Canada. Others, such as the division of matrimonial property and custody or access orders in non-divorce or common-law situations, are said to be matters of local and provincial concern and are governed by provincial laws. While legislative jurisdiction is a topic that does not really interest anyone other than lawyers, it is something that, in Alberta at least, has confused and frustrated members of the public, since it determines which court deals with which issues. As a rule, matters arising from federal statutes must be dealt with in courts of superior jurisdiction–in Alberta, this is the Court of Queens Bench–while matters arising from provincial legislation are generally, but not exclusively, matters for the lower level provincial courts. For years, the public has had difficulty determining which court is the appropriate court for a particular problem. In addition, there has been significant concern in the past over jurisdictional abuses, including forum shopping and the unnecessary duplication of proceedings in both levels of court. Sometimes this occurs at the initiative of lawyers themselves, but it is also common on the express instruction of clients. Clients unhappy with a lower court decision may want a second kick at the can in the higher level court. Applying for the same or similar relief in a higher level court is a de facto appeal of the lower level decision, without meeting the formal requirements for an appeal in law. While members of the Alberta judiciary frown on it, whether at the behest of lawyers or clients, such conduct has been frustrating to contend with over the years.

cancer drugs

Thousands of cancer sufferers are being denied life-saving drugs because of delays and bureaucracy in making them available on the NHS. The hold-ups are a matter of life and death for desperate people who have been diagnosed with cancer of the breast, colon or lung, or with a brain tumour. Doctors are furious that drugs such as Avastin, which is used to treat colon cancer, and Ce-tuximab, a treatment for head and neck cancers, are being blocked by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (Nice), a government-appointed quango set up to decide which drugs should be routinely prescribed on the NHS.
C ANCER The scope of the problem in the United States is large. Some 1.2 million people were diagnosed with potentially fatal cancer in the year 2000. Of these, 59 percent were expected to live for at least five years (in some, the cancer may be continuously present for more than five years) with or without evidence of cancer. People of all ages, from birth to advanced age, can manifest cancer, making it the second-leading cause of death in the United States. In children cancer is unusual, but it has consistently been the leading cause of death from disease. As mortality rates from cardiovascular disease decline, the proportion of cancer deaths increases. It is anticipated that the mortality rate from cancer will surpass that from heart disease by the year 2050. Direct and indirect financial costs of cancer in the United States for the year 2000 were $178 billion.Developing countries represented 80 percent of the worlds approximately 6 billion people in the year 2000. In these countries, cancer has grown from a minor public health issue in the early 1990s to a rapidly expanding problem by the beginning of the twenty-first century. The emergence of a middle class, with attendant changes in lifestyle, increased longevity and exposure to potential carcinogens, and expectations of improved medical delivery systems have fueled the growing impact of cancer in the third world. The financial resources and socio-medical infrastructure needed to diagnose and treat, much less screen and prevent these cancers, are lacking in the developing world.

From action-oriented content to more efficient workflows, six pros tell how the Internet is moving design forward–both online and off Getting stock photography or illustration for last-minute editorial changes used to be a mad scramble, and logistics often ruled out getting exactly what I wanted. But with all the major stock houses online now–some with very sophisticated search engines and well-designed user interfaces–finding the stock art I need is actually enjoyable. Factor in being able to download files for immediate use or, at the least, pulling in the screen shot for FPO (eliminating the need to scan all those tiny stock book pictures), and the process couldnt be better. My favorite sites are Corbis and Newsmakers. From a production standpoint, the Internet has given me a tool for doing much better work under the same crazy deadlines. From a design standpoint, its had little effect on me. Idealistically, theres little reason it should. The Net is a very different visual medium than print, because it can incorporate sound, animation and video. But has there been an effect on design? In several ways, the answer is yes–and all are negative. Because of the explosion of Web content, design talent has been spread thin. Often, too, designers are burdened with living in both worlds–print and Web design–which presents very difficult technical problems. Just as the integration of the computer into magazine design workfiow suddenly made designers accountable as production managers and technicians, so has the Internet forced many designers to try to become bilingual. Its hard enough maintaining fluency in Quark, Illustrator and Photoshop. Adding Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash sustains the designers evolution from aesthete to technician.

Starting an exercise programme is the easy bit, keeping it going takes a bit of incentive. Try these methods to help stay motivated: 1. Train with someone. Having an arrangement with someone means you are less likely to skip a session, even if the weathers terrible. 2. Schedule exercise into the weeks ahead. If you make diary entries to commit to specific classes or sessions, you are more likely to go. 3. Relieve boredom. If you are counting the seconds or number of reps until you are finished, try to focus on something else. Listen to some music or a language tape.
This is an exercise to help “get in touch” with the neutral spine. Lie on your back, bend the knees and place the feet flat on the floor about six inches in front of the sitting bones. Place the arms by your sides, palms down. Without tilting the pubic bone and tailbone up, try to press the length of the back into the flat surface. At the same time, contract the abdominal muscles down towards the spine. Feel as though you are pulling the belly button inwards. Do these last movements while exhaling through the mouth, with a “haaah” or a “ssshhhh” sound to help access the abdominal muscles. Feel the lower ribs pressing down and spreading. When you exhale, dont let the back lift or arch. Once you feel the muscles you are trying to isolate, any abdominal work done will be more effective.

Hair Dyes and Hair TreatmentsHair has no vital function in the human body but provides an outward sign of health and social communication. The history of hair coloring dates from ancient dynasties of Egypt and China where mineral and plant dyes were widely available to cosmeticians. Through the ages, women in particular have dyed their hair to hide grayness and to improve their appearance.

— Childrens Oral Health Is Priority; Parents Nearly 30% More Likely to Seek Regular Care for Children Than Themselves — MetLifes Oral Health Insights Study found that 60% of parents/guardians bring their children to the dentist two or more times annually. However, the study also reveals that less than half (47%) of those parents/guardians go that often themselves. While the lack of dental insurance and costs for dental treatment are factors preventing adults from seeing the dentist (only 24% of adults without dental insurance see the dentist twice a year or more), the oral health of their children appears a motivating factor. Half of parents/guardians with uninsured children take their children to the dentist twice a year or more, citing preventive care as the primary reason.

Monday May 5, 2003 will go down in history as a day to remember in employment law. It was the day the long-debated amendments to the Health Safety in Employment Act finally came into effect. Why is this new legislation so important? The term “workplace stress” took on a whole new significance, with new obligations for employers, and potentially serious financial consequences for those who ignore them. Workplace stress is no longer simply a sad fact of life. It is now an officially recognised and legislated “workplace hazard”, with the amendments extending the definitions of “harm” and “hazard” to include physical and mental harm caused by work-related stress. A cursory reading of the new legislation might be enough to instantly treble employers workplace stress, but a deeper understanding goes some way to restoring mental equilibrium. The Occupational Safety and Health booklet, Healthy work, Managing Stress in the Workplace, tells employers that “there is only a requirement to manage work stressors or the individuals stressed situation where you can be reasonably expected to know about the stress. Even then the obligation is only to do what is reasonably practicable in the circumstances.”

The most valuable sale of Impressionist and modern art ever staged in Britain is to take place in London on Monday. Simon Shaw of Sothebys said: “London was very much eclipsed by New York during the 1990s. Now were seeing that reversed.” In terms of the quality and range of the works consigned for sale “this looks very much like a New York sale”, he said. “Although were not equal with New York, the balance is shifting very significantly. Five or six years ago we were rarely selling $10m pictures. Now were selling quite a few.” The most expensive work is Jeanne Hbuterne (Au Chapeau) by Amedeo Modigliani, expected to make up to pounds 12m. Other works include La Sortie du Bain by Edgar Degas, a pastel dating from around 1895. Paintings by Pablo Picasso include Le Peintre et son Modle, estimated at up to pounds 7m and Les Courses Auteuil, from the start of his career in 1901, estimated at up to pounds 2.5m. There are also works by Raoul Dufy, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley and Gustave Caillebotte.

A private investigator is suing attorney H. Blanton Brown over files he says Brown refuses to relinquish involving a lawsuit against Skirvin Plaza Hotel owner Oesman Sapta. Myles won a $1.9 million lawsuit against Sapta in connection with a failed business deal involving OSO Motors Inc., formerly owned by Sapta. Plaintiffs allege they conducted extensive investigation for Brown to assist him in representing Myles. They also say that Brown made assurances to them that they would be paid “well in excess of their normal hourly rate” for the work. Berglan and Taylor contend they devoted nine investigators and hundreds of man hours to help Brown but have not received payment for the work. They also allege that they turned over their files on the case to Brown as part of a settlement Myles was to reach with Sapta that never materialized. Part of the failed settlement required all records in the case to be destroyed. Though the records are still intact, plaintiffs say that Brown wont give them up. “I dont know why hes keeping my files,” Taylor said. A similar plea was made by Myles new attorney, Russell Wright, who claims that Brown is unlawfully holding Myles file and preventing Wright, a former associate of Brown, from adequately representing Myles. Myles terminated Brown as his attorney in April. He has been unable to collect any of his $1.9 million judgment from Sapta. Brown argues that he is entitled to keep Myles file as a lien on his portion of the judgment Myles received. Earlier this week, federal Judge Robin Cauthron refused to consider Wrights motion to compel Brown to turn over Myles file. This current law suit, says Brown, is an indirect attempt by Wright, who offices with Taylor, to obtain Myles file. Brown said Berglan and Taylors case is without merit. “The case will be resolved swiftly,” he said.
The romance novel lifestyle of a private investigator is pure fiction, much like the books in which they live. Private investigators today are more likely to be working for defense attorneys on homicide cases or extracting evidence from a computer than sitting in a dimly lit bar downing club sodas asking the bartender if they know a gal named Ginger. Meanwhile, more attention is being paid to ethics in an industry that has sometimes lacked professionalism. Locally, several retired law enforcement detectives have opened their own private detective agencies and say they have the background and experience to be successful private eyes. Owen Deatrick formed Dynasty Consultants in 2002 after retiring in 1999 with 28 years in law enforcement, all of them with the Lansing Police Department. His firm handles a variety of a criminal defense investigations, plus insurance fraud and background investigations.

TODAY is the biggest shopping day of the year for lingerie, beating even the frenzied run-up to Christmas. Most underwear sales before Christmas are impractical red lacy numbers bought by men for women - but on New Years Eve women go out and buy more sensible items for themselves. Another reason for huge numbers of shoppers today is put down to unwanted Christmas presents. A spokesman for La Senza says women take back 90 per cent of the lingerie bought by partners.
SUPERMODEL Elle Macpherson has lashed out at British womens taste in underwear. She says that their lingerie is not only boring, but unsexy. Australian Elle, 39, who has earned millions from her range of skimpy underwear called Intimates, hit out in a TV documentary. She also claimed that she alone has taught women in the UK how to dress seductively under their clothes.

Real estate is a popular investment among Canadians. There are several advantages to investing in real estate. Real estate is leveraged. You may pay only a fraction (as low as 10%) of what the property is worth when you buy it. Real estate has utility. If you buy stocks or bonds, you cannot do anything with them; but when you buy real estate, you can use it until you sell it. For example, you can live in a house.

THOMAS BUFFEL last night revealed his torment at failing to land a move to Cologne. And the Rangers midfielder, who held talks with the German club on Monday, urged them to make a renewed bid for him in the summer. Belgium international Buffel has yet to start a senior game since recovering from knee surgery last year. The pounds 2.3m buy from Feyenoord in 2005 has been restricted to three substitute appearances, and a regular diet of reserve-team football.
WHY GO NOW? Eating, drinking and shopping: those seem to be the main interests of the locals in what is arguably Germanys friendliest big city. The breadth and depth of cuisine overturns the notion that eating out in Germany can be a bleak prospect, and the local beer should win over the most devoted oenophile. Colognes cultural wealth, also transcends the citywide reconstruction that is taking place.

When an infantry officer takes command of a company, he wants to make it the best fighting force possible. Many of us know how to develop the maneuver aspects of training, but we may not be sure how to improve other areas that support the companys ability to fight. Any good infantry commander knows the value of correct and timely first aid on the battlefield. The Bellamy Analysis of casualties in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam–a major, comprehensive study of wound effects–found that 80 percent of combat deaths occurred in the first hour after injury. Of these casualties, 50 percent bled to death, half of whom could have survived if the bleeding had been stopped. Saving lives is the fundamental reward from a good medical training program. Improving life-saving skills yields other benefits as well. An individual soldier gains confidence when he can perform the actions that he knows will save lives, and when he has truly mastered a skill he can use anywhere and any time. Units gain confidence going into battle, knowing that they will be cared for by the soldiers around them. Soldiers will fight harder when they know there is good, competent care and an evacuation program to take the wounded back to a dedicated care giver. These are not easily quantifiable benefits, but they are important and a good commander will work to improve them.
Soldier Armed It is the recognition of every soldier as a first responder that has helped drive the latest addition to the Armys training arena, the Medical Simulation Training Center (MSTC). The MSTC initiative standardizes the medical training needed to give soldiers the skills to save wounded soldiers in combat. MSTCs teach both medics and nonmedical personnel to be a soldier first and a medic second and will be used for both combat medical advanced skills training and combat life-saver (CLS) training. The new training centers provide realistic wartime training to ensure that in the very distracting situation of war, they will be able to perform their duties both as a soldier and a medic/CLS. Some even have medical obstacle courses for soldiers where the sights and sounds of war are present and instructors place stress on the soldier in the training.

I. Introduction Each chief must be thoroughly familiar with the LA regulation and should have a well-worn, tabbed copy of it on his or her desktop at all times. Army Regulation (AR) 27-3 (2)–which is currently under revision–provides a detailed explanation of who may be a client as well as the following guidance: (1) providing LA services; (2) training for LA providers; and (3) automating the office and maintaining files. (3) It also explains who is responsible for providing LA at installations, and who is eligible to receive it. (4) Chapter Three, Legal Assistance Services, is particularly important, because it details the types of LA services, (5) client services, (6) and preventive law services (7) which LAOs may or must provide. Appendix A is exceptionally helpful, because it lists all Army regulations that relate to LA. It is a gold mine of information to determine what regulation covers such issues as reports of survey, identification cards, Army Community Service, or notary services. (8)

Printing is a competitive business and an expensive operation. When government subdivisions are competing against the private sector for the same business, it makes it even more competitive, said Jim Grammer, owner of Gowdy Printcraft Press. The main printing production headquarters of the U.S. Government Printing Office is the largest information processing, printing and distribution facility in the world. Many of our nations most important information products, such as the Congressional Record and the Federal Register, are produced at the GPOs main plant, a 1.5 million square-foot complex in Washington, D.C., said Bruce James, the chief executive officer of the GPO. The GPO is the federal governments primary centralized resource for gathering, cataloging, producing, providing and preserving published information in all its forms. However, James said the majority of the governments printing needs are met through a long-standing partnership with Americas printing industry, dating back to the beginning of World War II.

Competing against the big box retailers is a challenge for Kansas small-town businesses, but state programs can help their owners work toward success. “There are so many challenges that face small mom-and-pop or individual business owners,” said Jeanne Stinson, state coordinator for the Kansas Main Street Program. “Theyre faced with huge competition from the big box stores and most of them, I think, in Kansas have learned to live with that competition. Its not going to go away.” “Promotional activities are one of those four points,” she said. “We also look to the organization itself — their group. Who is doing this work and making sure that its adequately funded, that they have the ability to do their advertising and to make assistance to businesses.”

Bill Jones, a longtime freelance photographer for JET and Ebony Magazines who cultivated deep relationships with numerous celebrities, remains in critical condition at a Los Angeles hospital after he was beaten into a coma outside his home. Police officials said that Jones, 62, was washing his car in the driveway of his Los Angeles home when some altercation occurred with Shai Alkebulan, 39. Jones was repeatedly struck in the head with a baseball bat. Alkebulan, identified as a substitute teacher with the Compton school district, remains in jail in lieu of $550,000 bail. No clear motive has emerged regarding what might have provoked the altercation.
Entertainment Editors LOS ANGELES–(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)–Nov. 15, 2001 Inspired by the world of design as it translates into lifestyle, Modernbook founders Mark Pinsukanjana and Bryan Yedinak transformed an empty loft space in Westwood into a unique “curated” boutique and art gallery. The first Modernbook is located in Silicon Valley. “Opening our Los Angeles location this month considerably expands our ability to showcase the contemporary art community”, commented Modernbooks founders. “Our regular gallery events make Modernbook a social hub for book and art collectors”.
Bourdin is frequently called a surrealist, a term that fails to account for his sly, sexually and psychically spiked images. Too many critics invoke his difficult childhood to explain the implied violence, troubled atmosphere, and misogynist undercurrents of his early work rather than noticing his reworking of Atgets mannequin windows or the cold influence of Irving Penn. Freudian childhood sleuthing occludes the fact that a rupture occurred much later, sometime in the mid- to late 60s. Perhaps it was the events of 68 that caused the detournment; certainly that year (Bourdins fortieth) marks the beginning of the work that can properly be called Bourdinian. (For those who smirk at the idea of a fashion photographer as politico, consider that Bourdins first experiences behind the lens took place during his stint as an army photographer in Dakar, Senegal, where he moved in a circle of pro-independence Senegalese intellectuals.) After years of its being no more than latent in most fashion work, Bourdin, ca. 1968, demonstrated the coma effects of representation- resemblance itself figured as the cadaverous–in vivid Technicolor. Think Maurice Blanchot on a fashion shoot. In Blanchots 1948 novel Death Sentence, an unnamed male narrator haunts the hallways and rooms of various expiring women; he demonstrates a perhaps too familiar knowledge of poisons and perfumes and a penchant for witnessing last words. Bourdins photos trace the consequences of the jouissance overload, sex and drugs (and color) taken a step beyond the recreational. He puts the unpleasure back in the pleasure principle, right where Freud always said it was. A shiny red liquid oozes out of white electric sockets in a spectacular 1975 spread for Charles Jourdan and spills on the floor in a shot for the 1980 Pentax calendar. Looking like nail polish or melted lipstick, the killer red signifies blood but is pigment, seeping neutrally between the metaphoric and the actual. Sadly, this smattering of Bourdins work, newly minted editions of photographs by a man who kept his own prints in a shoebox, lacked the veneer of critical dialogue or curatorial finesse. It was useful only to compare how much darker many of the photos appear in the recently released volume Exhibit A, an important and exhilarating collection of Bourdins images for magazines. One of my favorites is from a 1977 Vogue Hommes shoot of Ted Lapidus suits. A dazed, slightly disheveled man sits in a dark room watching a television-size glowing blue dock, while in the background a nude lover shaves or cleans up after business finished. The clothed man pauses from his can of Schlitz; dozens of empties surround him, and stacked cases of Schlitz are visible in a closets shelves. The scene is ominous and awry, theatricalizing the loopy sadness of sex and interpersonal transactions. Bourdin achieved similar strangeness with overly made-up little girls, JonBenet Ramseys avant la lettre. With keen economy of means, and no digital effects, the images make much contemporary photography feel tired by comparison.
